Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy Aran wool?

Yes, we sell Aran wool. Aran wool is wool that is used for traditional Aran jumpers – usually an aran or worsted weight yarn, slightly thicker than DK.

We stock a range of such yarns: West Yorkshire Spinners Colour Lab Aran is a blend of British wool in a great range of colours. Their The Croft Aran is made from pure Shetland wool, perfect for warm woollies, and their gorgeously soft Fable is made from a blend of wool and mohair.

If you are looking for soft luxury, Malabrigo Rios is 100% pure superwash Merino and comes in a range of rich kettle-dyed colours.

Where can I Baby Wool?

We stock West Yorkshire Spinners Bo Peep DK in a wide range of colours to meet the needs of our customers who are knitting for babies. This is a soft DK weight yarn, a blend of 52% Falkland wool and 48% nylon which means it is both durable and machine washable. It comes with some truly gorgeous patterns to help you when you are creating a garment for the new little person in your life.

Some people prefer pure merino wool rather than a wool/nylon blend, in which case, you might be interested in Lang Yarns Merino 120 – a soft DK in 100% pure merino, which is also machine washable. If you are looking for a thinner yarn – a 4ply perhaps, we offer Knitting for Olive’s Merino which has a range of subtle colours and some lovely knitting patterns which you can access via ravelry.com.

Do you sell sock yarn?

We love sock yarn here! Generally speaking, sock yarn is a blend of wool and nylon – the nylon gives it extra strength and makes for longer wearing socks. It is usually a 4ply or fingering weight yarn, but we also have some fun DK for thicker socks. The best thing about sock yarn, we think, is the variety of colours and patterns you can get, from the commercial yarns all the way to the hand dyed ones. Here is a list of the sock yarns we stock:

West Yorkshire Spinners: Signature 4ply and Colour Lab DK Sock

Opal Sock Yarn

Malabrigo Sock (100% pure Merino)

Schoppelwolle: Zauberball Crazy andZauberball Starke 6 – Buy online or in store. (sportsweight)

Lang: Jawoll Silk, Mille Colori Sock and Lace Luxe

Venetia’s BFL Sock – hand dyed here in Norfolk

Do you have crochet hooks/knitting needles?

What would a yarn shop be without hooks and needles? We stock Knit Pro fixed circular needles, double pointed needles and single pointed needles in Zing and Symfonie, along with interchangeable Symfonie needle tips. We also stock ChiaoGoo fixed circular needles and interchangeable needle tips in their amazing surgical grade stainless steel. We have Knit Pro Waves crochet hooks with their soft grip handles as well as some really tiny Steel hooks for very fine work.

Do you have local yarn from Norfolk?

In the shop (but not online) we have some yarn from a local supplier, Fibreworkshop. Jenn collects the wool from the rare breed Norfolk Horn sheep and, once it is spun, dyes it with botanical dyes, many of which she has grown herself. In addition, we have Venetia’s own brand of yarn which is hand dyed here in Norfolk

Do you offer knitting and/or crochet classes?

We run a range of classes and workshops in knitting and crochet both for beginners and for more advanced crafters. We also put on regular events, such as our luxury Retreat, one day sessions or talks. Click here to find all the the information you need about our knitting classes.

What time does your knit and natter group meet up?

Our Social Stitchers group (we have crocheters and embroiderers as well as knitters) gathers at different times in the month (we try to accommodate as many people as we can) and meets on the following days:

First Tuesday of the month – 11am to 1pm

Second Tuesday of the month – 2 to 4pm

Third Saturday of the month – 2 to 4pm

Fourth Tuesday of the month – 7 to 9pm

The cost is £2 per head and refreshments are provided.

If you cannot make these days, don’t worry! There is almost always a small group of people crafting in the shop on any given Saturday afternoon between 2 and 4pm. You will always be welcome.
