Summer Retreat 2026

This time of year is our busiest in the shop, and it is quite hard to think beyond Christmas. Nevertheless, Mandy and I sat down on Friday and planned our events and workshops for 2026. Many of them still have to be put on the website, but I would like to specifically talk about the Summer Retreat.

Firstly, why go on a Retreat? After all, we have regular afternoon meetings and events and, I suppose, people can knit or crochet whenever they have a spare moment. Well. A Retreat offers people the chance t escape completely. For whatever time it is, one day or a week, you can sit and work undisturbed on one or all of your works in progress, chat with like minded people, get or give advice to others, be inspired by the amazing creativity that people bring to the table. There is also a chance to learn something. Last year the amazing Jen from Fibreworkshop came to talk to us about Norfolk Horns and her journey. During the time that you are away, you will not have to think about the every day – chores, washing, preparing meals, work – all those things that cut into precious crafting time. Instead meals are provided, and you will have nothing more to do than something you enjoy.

Last year’s Retreat was at Little Massingham Manor and was a really special event. We had the space to ourselves, and were properly spoiled with food and the lovely studio space. We fully intended to hold next year’s Retreat there and had gone so far as to promote it on the website and everything. However, our Seaside Sunday Social Stitchers event at the Cliftonville Hotel changed our minds and last week I relocated the venue to Cromer.

So, Venetia’s Yarn Shop’s Summer Retreat 2026 will be hosted at the Cliftonville Hotel. It will start on Friday 12 June at 4pm and end on Sunday 14 June at 4pm. On the Saturday, there will be a chance to attend a workshop but otherwise you will be free to sit and craft all day, or wander around Cromer, walk on the beach, swim in the sea, whatever you feel like. The cost of the Retreat includes a room to yourself, with a sea view, ensuite bathroom and the usual amenities, a three course dinner on the Friday and Saturday nights, breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday morning, and a sandwich lunch on the Saturday and Sunday. And tea and coffee on tap, of course. There will also be a gift box. Mandy and I will be hosting throughout – happy just to be with you but also to help.

Some people have already booked for next year, so there are only five more spaces available. If you are interested and are happy to pay the full amount, you can book here. If you would like to book but wish to pay a 30% deposit, with the balance due on 31 March, contact us and we will sort it out.

I am already looking forward to it!
